Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about telepractice? Here are some common questions and their answers.
What is telepractice?
Telepractice means speech-language services provided through secure video sessions. Your child meets virtually with me, a licensed speech-language pathologist, from the comfort of home or school.
Why telepractice?
Telepractice allows us to:
- Increase access for families regardless of location
- Reduce barriers related to transportation, scheduling, and staffing shortages
- Collaborate flexibly with school teams and caregivers
- Meet children in familiar, comfortable environments
Teletherapy sessions are HIPAA-compliant, engaging, and thoughtfully structured to support high-quality outcomes.
Is telepractice effective?
Yes. Research supports telepractice as an effective way to complete speech-language evaluations and consultations for many children and adolescents.
What ages do you serve?
I work with children and adolescents ages birth to 21. Services are tailored to each child’s developmental level and needs.
What services are offered virtually?
Telepractice is used for evaluations, parent consultations, report reviews, school collaboration, and guidance on next steps.
What do we need for a session?
A device with a camera and microphone, reliable internet, a quiet space, and a caregiver nearby—especially for younger children.
Do parents need to be present?
For younger children, yes. For older children and teens, I’ll guide families on what works best.
Is telepractice secure and private?
Yes. All sessions are conducted using HIPAA-compliant platforms to protect your family’s privacy.
What if my child struggles on video?
That’s normal. Sessions are flexible, supportive, and child-centered, with time to warm up and adjust.
Do you provide inclusive care?
Yes. I offer affirming, culturally responsive care that respects each child’s identity, language, and communication style.
Do you support school-related needs?
Yes. I collaborate with schools through evaluations, IEP or report reviews, and consultations.
What happens after an evaluation or consultation?
Families receive clear feedback, written recommendations, and guidance on next steps.
How do we get started?
If you’re ready, you can choose an option and book an appointment. You can also contact me to schedule a free 10-minute consultation, and I’ll walk you through the process.
